Vinyl and Linoleum Flooring
Vinyl and linoleum are durable and versatile flooring materials. Bousada carries three types of vinyl: Sheet Goods/Flash Coving, VCT, and Vinyl Strip Flooring.
Vinyl was first introduced as vinyl composition tile (VCT) in 1933 at the Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago. Since there was a scarcity of vinyl at the time it wasn’t widely marketed until the 1940s. Originally, it was used mainly for flooring in high traffic areas. Today, vinyl, in various forms, is the most popular choice for any hard surface application.
Linoleum is made from solidified linseed oil in combination with wood flour or cork dust over burlap or canvas backing. Because of its flexibility, good quality linoleum can be used in buildings in which more rigid materials, such as ceramic tile, would crack. The finest linoleum, known as “inlaid”, is extremely durable and is made by joining and inlaying solid pieces of linoleum. Some less expensive patterned linoleums are printed with thin layers and are more prone to wear.
